Tom Shepard is a Certified Financial Planner™ professional, Accredited Portfolio Management Advisor℠, and the founder of Shepard FINANCIAL and The Currency Institute. With nearly 30 years in the world of finance, Tom has built his career on a mission to transform the way individuals and organizations think about money. His work integrates wealth management, personal growth, holistic wellness, and financial empowerment to help people align their resources with their values.
As an author and thought leader, Tom published Money Isn’t Everything, Everything Is Money: A Personalized Approach to Valuing Time, Energy, Relationships, and Money. The book is built on his original Find Your Financial Nature™ tool, which helps people discover how they are hard-wired to interact with money. This framework empowers individuals, families, and business partners to better understand their behaviors, reduce conflict, and make more conscious financial decisions. He extends this philosophy, known as the “Evolutionary Method” through The Currency Institute, which includes Currency Camp programs, retreats, and workshops where he coaches diverse audiences on financial literacy and empowerment.
Tom is a sought-after voice in the financial empowerment space and has been a featured guest on podcasts such as Finance, Fitness & Finesse; The Happiness Squad; Live, with the Famous Dr. Al; and Better Than Bitter Divorce Podcast™. He has also spoken internationally, including at the Global Happiness Summit in Costa Rica.
Earlier in his career, Tom served as Finance Director for Maine School Administrative District 51 and contributed to his community as a board member at Riverbend Yoga and a Treasurer of Sea Change Yoga, an organization offering trauma-sensitive yoga to underserved populations. He has also taught personal finance and mathematics at Gould Academy and was part of the Omicron Class at the Institute for Civic Leadership, where he authored Writings on the Seven Levels of Sustainable Non-Profits.
Beyond finance, Tom is an avid lacrosse player and outdoor adventurer. When he’s not driving off-road vehicles in Moab or fixing up his rustic cabin in the Maine woods, he lives with his family in Cumberland, Maine.
